Tasha Grows up:The potty wars won!

Tasha is in her 2nd week of actually going to the potty. It is amazing to me, that the toddler whose diaper I was changing less then 2 weeks ago is now a little girl. She used to be so clingy, and now to our surprise total Independence has invaded our lives.
The toddler who used to sit on the steps and tearfully wave good by to her mom, just gave her a hug this morning as sang out Bye Mama! as she ran back to he room.
What happened?
Kids change in the wink of an eye. Certain milestones, bring certain maturity comes with each one.
I remember when Denise didn't want to walk to the door with me, it was a tiny bit devastating to me, my little girl had grown up.She ran the other way out the back door. I was sad, but I got over it quickly when she showed me that new doors were opening. She hopped on her tricycle and rode off into the sunset, and ran into the side of the house.
Tasha has been skating on her Barbie skates, all through the house. She falls, and has to be helped up so she still needs us, but it is just in a different way.
New hurdle: Dancing school. Oh Boy.

The Sack Lunches

The Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage
compartment and sat down in my
assigned seat. It was going to be a
long flight. 'I'm glad I have a
good book to read. Perhaps I will get
a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take off, a line of
soldiers came down the aisle and
filled all the vacant seats, totally
surrounding me. I decided to
start a conversation.
'Where are you headed?'

I asked the soldier seated nearest to me.

'Petawawa. We'll be there for two
weeks for special training, and then
we're being deployed to Afghanistan.

After flying for about an hour, an
announcement was made that sack
lunches were available for five
dollars. It would be several hours
before we reached the east, and I
quickly decided a lunch would help
pass the time...

As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a

soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch.

No, that seems like a lot of money for

just a sack lunch.

Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks.

I'll wait till we get to base.'

His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers.

None were buying lunch. I
walked to the back of the plane and
handed the flight attendant a
fifty dollar bill.
'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.'

She grabbed my arms and squeezed
tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me.

'My son was a soldier in Iraq ;

it's almost like you are doing it for him.'

Picking up ten sacks, she headed up
the aisle to where the soldiers
were seated. She stopped at my seat
and asked, 'Which do you like
best - beef or chicken?'

'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why
she asked. She turned and went to
the front of plane, returning a
minute later with a dinner plate from
first class. 'This is your thanks..'

After we finished eating, I went
again to the back of the plane,
heading for the rest room.
A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did.

I want to be part of it. Here, take this.'

He handed me twenty-five dollars.

Soon after I returned to my seat, I
saw the Flight Captain coming down
the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers

as he walked, I hoped he was not

looking for me, but noticed he was

looking at the numbers only on
my side of the plane. When he got to

my row he stopped, smiled,

held out his hand, and said,

I want to shake your hand.'

Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I
stood and took the Captain's hand.
With a booming voice he said, 'I was
a soldier and I was a military pilot.
Once, someone bought me a lunch.
It was an act of kindness I never forgot.'

I was embarrassedwhen applause

was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the
plane so I could stretch my legs.
A man who was seated about six rows
in front of me reached out his
hand, wanting to shake mine. He left
another twenty-five dollars in my palm.

When we landed I gathered my
belongings and started to deplane.
Waiting just inside the airplane door
was a man who stopped me, put
something in my shirt pocket, turned,
and walked away without saying a
word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the
soldiers gathering for their trip to the base.

I walked over to them and handed them

seventy-five dollars.

'It will take you some time to reach the base.

It will be about time for a sandwich.
God Bless You.'

Ten young men left that flight
feeling the love and respect of their
fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car,

I whispered a prayer for their safe return.
These soldiers were giving their all for our country.

I could only give them a couple of meals.
It seemed so little...

A veteran is someone who, at one
point in his life, wrote a blank check
made payable to 'The United States of
America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many
people in this country who no longer understand it.'

May God give you the strength andLove, peace

Life, goes on

This was the first sound I heard this morning, People are surprised that it doesn't bother me. It doesn't. I love to hear the sound of our guys arriving safely back, or just doing what they do. Tasha and I sit outside and watch the planes take off and land. It brings us closer the soldiers, in some ways. I always pray for them
We think about the soldiers when we see something about the news on TV, but I live so close to the base, I think and pray for them a lot.
It's hard not to when they are flying over your head. Day and night. smile.

I went walking with Denise this morning, sort of. I mean she was doing a walk-run and I was doing a walk, that got slower and slower. I was determined to make it though, but Denise got worried when I was writer then a sheet and seemed out of breath. I don't work out near as much as I should. I am going back to the Gym. the thing is in the gym I work out on machines, that strengthen my upper body, and such. But I need to do a little more weight training.

Any way, it started out bad enough. Denise showed up in her red running pants, and fancy workout shoes, lookiong like she just stepped out of fitness magazine. I had on jeans and a blouse. After making me go back and change, she was unhappy that I wasn't wearing warm up pant, but still in my jeans and a walmart shirt.
Well, she said loose, fitting. I have some furry warm up pants I brought from Sam's club last fall, for sleeping not running and no, i am not going to be seen in public in these.
We discussed this for about a minute, Denise shrugged and gave up, even Tasha was unhappy with me. But we survived, we started out and Denise left me in the dust before we were down the block This really doesn't look good, but I am going to keep plugging even if she is in the next city before i get to the end of the block, and she almost was.

Luckily she slowed down, I didn't pass out, and we walked about a mile. I am carrying a bucket for the perspiration dripping off me,( well, so ,not really) Denise is looking like she just stepped out of the shower.(really)
This whole scenario needs work.
Tomorrow when w do it again, she cheerfully tells me, I will be better.
Tomorrow when we do I again, I hope I can make it to the end of the block.

Life goes on...

Random thoughs on a Friday

Hello Everyone

What a Week! Eric has had a toothache all week, he finally had it pulled not one, TWO, he was pretty much a lot more miserable after the pull then before. But he survived an all is well.

Tasha has changed personalities on me. She started playing with a friend who has a little bit of a mouth, and has inherited it. She informed me last night that She was going to watch Wow Wow Wubbsis on Noggin, no matter what I thought. she said:" I am not going to bed, I am going to watch this until its off,"

She sat down thinking she had made her point, but was quite surprised to find herself picked up and placed between the blankets and pillows about 30 seconds later. She tried the crying bit, she tried the PlEEEEEaaSE it's my favorite show Nanny bit, then she was afraid of "thunders" as she calls it bit and in the middle of all this she went to sleep.

Who cares about the terrible twos?, its the tumultuously threes I have issues with. Too bad for Tasha, I have gone through it three times before, although she has much more of a hard head and steel personality then her mother and uncle.

Children go through such stages in their growing up years, I know it is a stage, in about six months she will wake up as sweet as she used to be, as if nothing has ever happened.

I wonder, often, what signals changes in kids and adults?. We grownups can be as moody as we want to be, why can't kids? Will they can and are. So proves Tasha.

So starts a new adventure in child rearing...

We went to a pawnshop yesterday, Denise made a wonderful deal, three TV's for 70 dollars, I am quite proud of her and now we all have TV;s. Isn't that the American way?

So I have to get to work, I recieved a hugh Avon delivery this morning, I have to deliver it. Thats the best part.

Wednesday Interview: Simone from Chocolate covered daydreams.

We are welcoming Simone from Chocolate Covered daydreames
:
good Morning Simone, How are you?
I'm doing pretty good. I've had my two cups of coffee, well, actually 1 1/2 and I'm ready to start the day!
Please have a seat, can I get you something to drink?
Thank you but Girl, once I've had my two cups of coffee, everything here on out is either Coke Zero or water. So, I have a glass of water.
There you go..
So sweet, thank you!

Welcome, everyone we are interviewing Simone from Chocolate covered Dreams..

you do a wonderful blog on Thursdays called "things that I have learned" Where did you come up with the idea, and why don't your synchronize with other blogs, such as wordless Wednesday
, etc? I'd steal it er join you in it?
Things I Learned Thursdays are just my way of collecting all of my silly, stupid, off the wall thoughts on that particular day. If you could see inside of my head, the thoughts are on turbo all the time. I decided to share those thoughts in this way. As for synchronizing, umm, I'm a bit new to the blog thing still and wouldn't know where to start as far as synchronizing.

Tell us your favorite thing about Baby Boo.
Baby Boo is definitely one of the greatest joys of my life (notice I said, one because I have many). The thing that I adore about her is that she allows the silly side of me to come out. I can sing So Yummy, So Yummy and dance around the room singing, "We're going to Kentucky" and she laughs and says, "Again, Momo." She is this lowkeyed kid until I walk in the door and she is jumping up and down and saying, "Yaaaay, Momo!"
She reminds me to put aside stress and have some fun for awhile.
On the flip side, I'm counting down to when she is officially potty trained. I think we'll go out and celebrate!

I have only read your blog for the last 6 months, you have gone through some very heavy (so it dates me) difficult times. You have graciously shared them with your readers. Did it help?
Hahaha well, it helped me but some others didn't feel that it helped them. You see, I'm an honest person. In fact, that could be one of my greatest strengths or weakness, depending on how you look at it. When I found out that my ex had been cheating on me and my marriage of 21 years was over, I was devastated. I cried inwardly and only outwardly in the shower or when I was supposed to be asleep instead. It took me a long, long time to find my creativity and ability to sing and laugh and smile again. It was like a part of me was so wrapped into the marriage that I felt as if I couldn't breathe properly. Slowly, I began to feel the healing taking place. I found my strength in writing down my feelings and praying, lots and lots of times. I think I cried 10 billion tears or more and on certain days, I still cry but most of the time, they are tears of happiness. By blogging about my life, it's given my emotions a voice and an opportunity to help others say, "Oh yeah, I felt that or I'm feeling that too."
I mean did you get a lot of read support?
Support came first from my daughters and my twin sister, before I even began blogging. I tell you, my daughters have been a lifeline to me. I really don't know how I would've made it through if I didn't have them to lift me up, and pull me out of the self pity. TV Boo (works at an ABC newstation and thus, the nickname) would turn on the stereo loud and say, "C'mon Mommy! Let's have a dance party!" I'd just move, no matter how awful I looked, we'd laugh and bounce and jump and roll and just have a ball. My Married Boo would call me and cry along with me and then laugh when I'd say something funny. I think they are the only ones that reallly laugh at my jokes! My twin sister, has been my rock. I can't imagine life without my twin and buddy.
Why did you start blogging?
I'm a writer so writing for me is like breathing. I write in my head when there's no paper around. So, naturally, blogging was just a cool way to put it all down. As for followers, I'm not one to go nuts over how many followers I have. If I only had a few, I'd be just as content because I'm just being me and if being me is interesting enough for others to read, then that's great! My twin sister and I have written a children's book that we're anticipating publication for and the blog will also be a way to introduce the book and the characters.
Have you made a lot of blog friends?
Yes I have. I've had the privilege of meeting one of my friends face to face. You know, I have a hard time calling the friends that I make, blog pallies. To me, they are friends, plain and simple, there's no distinction. Sandi and I clicked immediately. She and i get together at least once a month and just chill out. It's been wonderful getting to know here, among so many others - you included.
How do you like California?
California is what it is. I have lived here all of my life and I don't know what I'd do living in another state. At this point though, with the California budget not being approved or balanced, it's a bit frightening. I'm thinking I may need to write a letter to Arnold and ask him if he needs my help.
If you could go anywhere and do anything on this earth what and where would you go?
There are three places I'd love to go. I'd love to go on an African Safari and to Alaska (preferably on a cruise). The only thing about the Alaskan trip is I'd have to bring along an extra piece of luggage to "smuggle" I mean, borrow a few some King Crab legs. hahaha That's one of my most favorite meals of all. I'd also like to go to Korea. I have a friend who is Korean and she's taught me about the culture but I'd love to see it for myself.
Can tell tell everyone what Oct 25 means to you?
If you could see me right now, you'd see me cheesing it up. My wedding date is set for October 25th. It's going to be a very small wedding but Boo and I will be saying our "I do's". Boo and I live in the desert so the weather here will be nice for an outdoor wedding. There's a beautiful spot with a gazebo and waterfalls that we're hoping to secure that for the ceremony. I'm so excited because my first marriage I eloped so having a ceremonyand reception will be so much fun!

Thank you Simone, for being my guest today today.
It was such a pleasure! I usually interview others so being interviewed was a first for me. Thank you for having me as your guest.

Thank you for being here!
Now, do I get to be a bridesmaid? Please? Please!!!! I have never been a bridemaids.........please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh right, Thank you for visiting....Come on simone, PLEEEEEEEEESSSSSSE?

Random Monday Night

If you come here more then once in a blue moon, then you are totally confused. But take heart, you are seeing what you think you are. My blog keeps changing formats and colors.

Now,this wasn't just to fool you, I promise. It is for me to find out if I can find a template I can live with before giving up the ghost and moving to word press with the rest of he crowd.

I don't want to move, I feel all warm and cozy here on blogger, but my blog looks like rush hour at grand central it has so much on it, so I am trying to sort it out, just a little. It seems every time I drop something, I gain something else.

So for a little bit, you may keep getting a shock when you drop in, but eventually it will all settle down and be boring again, and isn't that what life is all about?

We moved in and got settled. Bugs have found somewhere else to live for the moment, ever once in the wile one will get bold and pop out, but just for a minute, they have learned to run when they see me coming. I guess death by oven spray is pretty horrible, but now I have Raid so it will be a mercy death.

Charleston being surrounded by water, oceans, lakes and marshes is the natural breeding ground for misquotes, and other bugs. I love water but everything has it ups and downs. bugs are definitely a down for this city.

Tasha is ready for her bath, I am off to give her one and put her down for the night. Tasha has, just as every child in the world developed an alter ego this summer, she has, at three, developed a cheerleader persona. Don't ask me how a three year old can be preppy but she is and I am confused. Her mother was never preppy but her Nanny was and is..did it jump a generation?

Eric is suffering from a monsterious toothache, he is surviving for the moment on pain pills and amoxcillin, tomorrow we will get it pulled.

Denise is still trying to figure her future out. I remember whne I had so many choices, and hopeshe makes the choices right for her. Me? I made some horrendous choices, like leaving Hewlet Packard to be cool..and turning around and doing the smae thing with IBM, I think of how my life would have been had I not made those decisions.

Denise has a similar decision, she is trying to decide if she wants to go into food management or go back to school I sit back quietly and let her ponder. The wondeful thing about todys world is she can do both..I hope she realizes that as she is pondering her choice.

This is one of my really random posts, because I am feeling random...
Well, we all have those days, don't we?

See you Tomorrow....

Small Talk six saturday

6 things you think would be great about being a rockster (or just famous)

This is a problem because for one thing, I wouldn't want to be famous, nor would I see anything great in it. But just for fun, let me think..

I think it would be great to be able to help financially some of the organzations. I' d give the American Heart asociation as much money as I could so they could cure congitial heart disease in Children.

I would make sure my kids had wonderful houses and cars

i would buy my dream care...a beamer

I would find a family that had nothing and give them everything..making sure the kids got a good education..

I would walk in the door of walmart stick out my tongue and walk out!

I would spread the gospel

This is probably not what you are looking for

Rerunning a interview.....Carey

Today was supposed to be another interview from Simone over at chocolate coered daydreams but we must have gotten our wires crossed soo I am reruning Caryey's from life in the Carpool land..Carey bless her heart, didn't get a fair shot because my computer was down and ihad to hastily post it from the library....

Questions, for "Interview"

Today we have Carey from "Life in the Carpool lane visiting us, ive her a big hand! Take a bow Carey! Thank you for Visiting, Have a cup of coffee? Oh, no thank you! I’ve never liked the taste of coffee. (My mom, who must drink it daily or she turns into a 3-headed beast from the depths of the blackest swamp, is requesting DNA testing. She’s pretty sure I’m not hers.)

Cream or Sugar?

Cookie? Suger or Chocolate Chip? I’m horrible at making decisions. Maybe just a half of each?

I like the name of your Blog "Life in the Carpool lane" How did you come up with it

Your new badge is great to, !

Thank you. I kind of decided to start the blog on a whim. The boys were down for a nap and I actually had a whole three minutes to myself. I sat with my computer on my lap and was brainstorming titles. At one point I said “life in the fast lane” and then I snorted and thought, “Ha! More like ‘life in the carpool lane’!” And I knew I had it!

You tell wonderful stories about your boys, Logan and Jack, Logan just had a Birthday how does it feel with the two of them growing up?

The parenting saying ‘the days are long but the years are short’ runs through my head at every birthday, milestone, holiday, “first,” etc. I can’t believe that my boys are 3 and 4. How did that happen?!?!?!

What does your husband think of your popularity? Does he read your blog?

He reads it daily and sometimes pipes up in the comments. He’s been ridiculously supportive. He surprised me by buying me my own domain name and he’s helped so much with the technical coding of my site. Last week, because Mr. Linky wasn’t working and I was starting a new carnival, he built me a widget so readers could leave links on my carnival post. Who knew it would pay to be married to a geek?!?!?!

Everyone I am interviewing has taught me something, You taught me about putting my personality into my blog, The first post I read of yours was

" Girls in White Satin" The second one was you Not me Monday for that week.I felt like I ws reading a friend, What would you suggest for new bloggers.?

First off, I can’t believe you remember the first posts you read of mine. I’m touched…and thinking that you might be a bit crazy. Anyway, as for suggestions to new bloggers, I feel like I’m still pretty new at this (my blog is 6 months old) so I’m not sure I’m qualified to be giving out advice. I guess I can offer up two things:

I find it’s easier to “get into” a new blog when their side column(s) have a couple details that make reading their posts easier. For example, if a post mentions that Suzy just graduated and there is a picture of a cute 5 year old girl labeled ‘Suzy’ in the side column then I’m not left wondering if Suzy just graduated from preschool, high school or college. I guess I like it when the details in the side column(s) help put posts in context.

You mentioned that you felt like you were reading a friend when you read some of my posts. Well, I tend to write like I’m talking to a friend. I guess it’s just my style because I used to do it in old journal entries too. I try to be honest and humorous and often use the strikethrough feature and a smaller font, like I’m whispering something to a friend. Hopefully, it makes my readers/blog-friends feel like I’m carrying on a conversation with them.

Have you figured out where are the people who are following you are going?

Nope…still no idea!

What would you like to share with us ?

I make my boys share everything so I guess I should lead by example and share with you. But you can’t have my half cookies. Oh, that’s not what you meant by ‘sharing?’ Ummm, I’m feeling a bit bloated. What? Not that either?

Well, of course, I’d like to shamelessly plug the weekly summer carnival I started to help keep mamas as sane as possible, Tuesday’s Tips for Summer Survival.

What book are you reading Now?

How I wish I could read like I used to…uninterrupted by needy children. It takes me forever to finish a book these days. Anyway, I’m reading Lost on Planet China by J. Maarten Troost. It’s listed as a travel book but it’s not exactly going to help you find the best karaoke bar in Beijing. It’s one man’s very humorous and honest take on all things Chinese. I tend to go back and forth between quick girly reads, the same two parenting books (you’d think I’d give up on them because my boys are still wild but no…I keep hoping the magic solution will fall out of the pages and land in my lap), books that take place in China and books about the way we eat and the effects on our health and the environment (which is also ironic because I could a diet and exercise plan).

When do you type your blog?

Generally at night after the boys have gone to sleep. Sometimes I might start something while they are napping. (Hallelujah for naps!) I have a horrible memory though so I sometimes hand-write stuff down throughout the day.

How do you get your ideas

My boys are great fodder for my blog. It took me awhile before I got the hang of paying close enough attention throughout the day to see that there was great material happening right in front of me. It’s also a great way to get perspective on a situation. When I recently had my terrible Monday and one thing after another went wrong all day long, I was frustrated and overwhelmed but I also realized what a great blog post it would make.

Not me Monday

The winner of my giveaway is Debbie from "On the refridgerator door" Debbie Congratulations and thank you for entering my giveaway. I emailed the information you need for geting your AVOn..
Now to my little Not me stuff...

I did not lock the keys in the truck at FAmily Dollar. I had to pop the rear door, climb over into the back seat, reach over the front seat and pop the locks, because of child proof locks in the back. The people in the white SUV next to me had a blast.

I did not spray over cleaner all over the oven then forget to clean it. I know our old landlord loved that!

I did not spend two hours getting a nice blaze going on a pile of leaves I was buring only to have a Charleston monsoon put it out in 10 seconds.

I did not give Tasha a peanut butter sandwich for dinner, because I had sprayed the oven and couldn't cook.

I did not, even though Denise and I promised ourselves we wouldn't do this, spend the last few hours of our move stuffing last minute items into garbage bags, and small boxes; we now have s significant amout of misc bags and boxes to go through.

I did not dance to Stayin' alive with Tasha, then turn to the toddler music channel and sing silly songs with her. (see a pattern emerging?)

I did not on my first night in the new house do battle with Charleston's famous flying roaches as they dashed out of the chiminey and flew through the living room.

I did not spray oven cleaner on them, and bleach cleaner before smashing them with my shoe.

I did not let Tasha stay up late and watch Noggin as a treat because we have gone three months without television.

I did not rush in here( new houe) and put up the computer first thing so I could go on Facebook..talk about being addicted....

Moving day

Moving Day...
We were up early, planning to be out of the house by six pm and into the new house, busily unpacking.

We had the trailer on hold at our trusty up the road UHAUL:19.95 a day one way:remember that.
We started moving everything to the front of the house, we had been doing this all week anyway so there wasn't much, we just had to clean up.

Old Landlord calls excitedly: he has rented the house , but the catch is..they need to sign the papers and be in today can you be out by ten AM?
TEN AM!!!!!

Well he has been a nice landlord, we didn't have much left, the rest of our stuff was in the backyard of the new house..the new landlord went out of town and forgot to give us the key.
So we talked him into 1pm and got ourselves moving. This observation is based on having a 5 by 8 trailer to moveus.

Denise leaves to pickup the hitch, and the trailer comes back ten minutes later. It would appear we need a s special wiring contraption for her new truck, so the lights would work. Cost: 100 dollars time needed to install:Priceless.

So we preceded to move everything in her truck, you have not had fun until you have ridden down a major interstate with a mattress on the top of your car and a full truck, well SUV.Eric kept muttering something about " West Virginia"i I didn't ask, I didn't want to know.

We made a total of 9 trips when we decided to go to Denny's for lunch, It was at this point, painfully clear we were not gong to make it by the appointed time, we had to reorganize the battle plan. Eric gets a call from the new landlord He's in town and sorry about he key thingy
Erics off to get the key.
While there, a friend of Denise's heard our discussion and volunteer her husband who just happened to work for a moving company...and did we think he could be of service to us?

Does a duck have feathers?

We made arrangements, he showed up with his truck in 30 minutes, we all breathed a sigh of relief, loaded the truck and took off, Denise stayed behind to clean up, we rescued her a few minutes later ....only an hour late.

Next time I move, as I sit here surrounded yet again by chaos, I am leaving everything else behind..

Oh I said rememnbe the uHAUL, 19.95 somehow became 50.00..who knew? We were happy about the light thingy.

Someone told Denise a long time ago: you know your friends by who helps you move when you need them.

We had friends in Charleston we didn't even know about.

Go Figure.

Ain't God Grand? :)
